DEVELOPMENT / 01Start with the customer and the collection
Identify who the garment is for, how it should be worn, and what makes it part of your brand. A focused first range is easier to specify than a long list of unrelated styles. Give each item a style name or code, reference images, intended colours, size range, and quantity estimate. Explain which details are essential to the identity and which can be discussed.
DEVELOPMENT / 02Turn the design into working instructions
A technical pack connects drawings, measurements, materials, trims, artwork, and finishing. If you do not have one, begin with clear references and written priorities. Mark logo positions with dimensions and show construction details that are easy to miss, such as rib height, pocket shape, hood overlap, neck binding, or seam treatment. Keep one current version of every approved file.
DEVELOPMENT / 03Choose materials through the finished garment
Use a swatch to assess the proposed textile, then evaluate how it behaves in the complete product. Consider the intended care, appearance, fit, and decoration together. A hoodie body, rib cuff, print, and label need to work as a system. Record any material differences in a development sample and confirm the final references before production.
DEVELOPMENT / 04Make sampling a decision stage
Review fit, proportions, measurements, artwork size, colour direction, seams, trims, and the inside finish. Wear the sample as intended and collect measured feedback. Consolidate changes instead of sending disconnected revisions. Ask for a clear explanation of the sample scope, development costs, revision stages, and what your approval will authorize.
DEVELOPMENT / 05Connect manufacturing to your retail plan
Confirm quantities by style, colour, and size, then specify labels, tags, individual packing, and carton grouping. Discuss the required receiving date and the approvals needed to support the production schedule. Minimum quantities, material availability, pricing, and delivery arrangements are confirmed for your actual range. Keep the approved sample and files for repeat orders.
