Begin with the product, not a generic price
A useful manufacturing enquiry explains what you are making, who will use it, and which details are essential. Include design references, a target material, measurements, branding positions, quantities, and destination. If you are still deciding between constructions, tell us the performance or appearance you want so the conversation can focus on suitable options.
Translate requirements into a specification
The specification is the common reference between buyer and manufacturer. It can include drawings, material descriptions, colour references, measurement points, artwork, trims, seam details, labels, and packing instructions. A clear specification reduces guesswork and makes quotations easier to compare. Identify which requirements are fixed and which can be adjusted to meet a budget.
Use sampling to resolve uncertainty
A sample lets you assess construction, proportions, feel, print appearance, and finishing in a real product. Record what is approved and what needs changing. If the sample uses a substitute material or trim, document the difference rather than assuming it represents the production version. Sampling terms and the number of revisions should be agreed for the project.
Move into production with a clear approval
Before production begins, review the final specification, quantity by size or variant, quotation, payment terms, estimated schedule, and packing requirements. Keep one current version of the approved documents. Later changes can affect cost and timing, so explain amendments promptly and obtain written confirmation of the impact before proceeding.
Plan the order beyond manufacturing
Your product still needs to reach its destination, be checked on arrival, and support future reorders. Confirm shipping responsibilities and the records that will be used for repeat production. Keep approved samples and specifications together. A manufacturer relationship becomes more useful over time when each order builds on clear information from the previous one.
